Riding The New BMW

I took the new BMW S1000RR out for a spin last weekend and here are some more totally unqualified impressions.

It’s fairly reasonable to sit on for a street ride. The pegs are high, but not ridiculously so. The bars are high enough to keep some of the weight off your wrists (unlike some other current superbikes). The brakes stop you RIGHT NOW. I may have left two small dents in the back of the gas tank, if you know what I mean . . .

My initial thought was it had tons of power. Then I switched it out of rain mode and just about sucked the seat pad up off the tail section. I gave it a couple of good whacks in race mode, and someone nearby called for their mommy. It might have been me.

At street speeds, it handles like my track bike. That’s significant because my track bike has had all its street gear stripped off and magnesium wheels. All in all, I can’t wait to try it at the track where we can let it run. I’ve included a picture of Robbie’s race bike just for the drool factor.
